World Premiere of Dances with Words and Music

Program to include Copland’s El Salón México in Bernstein’s two-piano arrangement, with choreography by Venetia Stifler that Ravinia premiered in 2010, and the world premiere of Stifler’s Dances with Words and Music, inspired by an early work by Ruth Page and celebrating poetry through dance. The new work, sponsored by The Poetry Foundation, blends contemporary choreography with the poetry of Langston Hughes, e.e. cummings, Federico García Lorca, and Dorothy Parker within a multimedia environment of live musical accompaniment and animations created by visual artists Kelli Evans and Frank Vodvarka.

The program will also feature new works by company members Edson L. Cabrera Veitia and Rigoberto Fernandez Saura.
